HOT!!!

It's so hot here that all we do is sit around and complain about how hot it is.  I quit watering because after you water it's dried up in about 15 minutes.  My squirrels however do appreciate the watering.  They lay in the cooled off dirt all day long, with Ronald by their side!

So Dennis and I drove to our the lake.  Canton Lake is about 20 miles from our house and we all grew up there and our children grew up there. We spent every weekend there along with our friends for 25 years or so.  We had to sell our pontoon boat when Dennis had his accident and we were getting old enough that is was starting to be work!  But we have great memories!

This last picture is where the tornado went across the lake and landed on that beach.  The trees are stripped bare.
Here is our seven day forecast for the next week.................

Dragon....Naturally Speaking

My husband has his own computer system that has dragon naturally speaking on it. It is a hands free device that your voice trains and it will type for you. Well, his computer is a 32 bit and he needed a 64 bit. (I am now pretending to know what I'm talking about). Anyway, Dennis has a computer guy who the DRS (Department of Rehab Services) appoints to come up and get us going. Sterling Krysler is has name and he is also in a wheelchair due to a body surfing accident 20 years ago. Sterling and his wife Lori come up from Oklahoma City to train Dennis whenever he needs training. They are the most wonderful people and they have had there ups and downs like all of us. Well, today things did not go according to plan and we have been working on the computer all day long. Talking to Microsoft, Dell and then Sterling again after he had to go back to Oklahoma City.I think we are about to get the kinks out but it puts an emotional strain on everyone involved. My husband congratulated me on not losing my cool today. (haha) I love Sterling and Lori and I am going to miss them coming up because I think DRS is about to pull the plug on their visits. :( Here are some pictures of some really inspirational people.

Best friends now Blogger buddies

My BFF and I always go to Oklahoma City to have our annual checkup with our doctor.  We also use it as a day to go eating and shopping!  Well, about 6 months ago after much talking, I convinced her to start her own blog about country living and her craftiness and her insane OCD about organizing.  She did start the blog and she is very good at it.  So, as we were sitting at the table eating our awesome Italian dinner at Bravo in the big city, I whip out my point and shoot camera because I think I'm so smart.  But my new blogger friend/ BFF whips out her point and shoot also.  Hilarious..., when you start blogging you always have a camera close because there is always a story to tell.  We were teasing each other about who was going to get to blog about this first.  But I got the best photo of the day and it is of my friend making a horrible face, so I sent it to her via email and wrote " preview of the coming attractions!
In all seriousness this Italian restaurant was fab!  Their dinner salad was enough to make me happy, the best I have ever eaten. They chop up all the veggies really small and have a wonderful house creamy parmesen dressing.   We also had great bread and brick oven pizza.  I highly recommend eating there.

Going to the city and shopping with Jana is great therapy for me since I don't get to go very much.  This was the cherry on top of the sundae!  I  am saving the really awesome picture of Jana, I'm thinking someone has a monumental birthday coming up!

Dead Flowers....I give up!

My English and Australian blogger friends are posting about their beautiful gardens!  (You know who you are Tracey, Barbara and Rose!)  They do have the most beautiful lush gardens and they have had so much rain it has almost had the opposite effect than the heat.  Well, I thought I would share my lovely garden.  Try not to be jealous girls.

                                                   My gerbera daisies.
                                                My poor Hosta
                                                      My Shasta Daisies
                                                          My Clematis
I still have a lot of flowers that are OK, the ones that are heat tolerant, these just bit the dust.  My water bill is going to be so high so I am going to have to GIVE UP!!!  I think next year I will plant cactus.

Last Day of Vacation

The last day of vacation was a laid back day.  We could tell the temperature was getting hotter and it was going to get hotter as the week went on.  We decided since we had such a great time that we would go home the next morning and that would give me three days to recuperate before the work week started.  So we just laid on the deck an swam and played most of the day.

Max got Dennis where he wanted to be and it is very important to apply the brakes!
                                                                             Playtime!
That evening we walked across the street to our favorite place to eat called the Lazy Parrot and had an awesome time of eating and fellowship with the best friends in the world.

                                                      The best group of guys!

The best group of women!!
The best vacation!

American Pickers

My husband and I love to watch American Pickers.  For those who are not familiar with the show it's about two men from Iowa who go to various homes and places of business and pick through their stuff in barns or old storage buildings.  They are looking for treasures in all that old stuff and they have a market to sell in.  They also have a online store you can browse through.   To me that is the dream job of all jobs.  I can't think of anything more fun!  So at the place we stay at in Grove, Max the owner of Honeycreek Resort, has an old Phillips 66 sign that I am obsessed with.  I have taken a million pictures of this sign and it has been there for a long, long time.  I hope he never gets rid of it because it is a landmark of times past.  It also reminds me of many happy memories.

Feast!

Our friend Blake brought his wok to Grand Lake. It is hooked up just like a gas grill and he made us the best fajitas EVER! We had steak, chicken, and shrimp with yellow peppers, onions, red peppers and cajun seasoning. His wife Bethaney made the best guacamole and salsa. It was My husbands highlight of the trip.

This is the guacamole recipe and I love my guacamole but this was awesome!!

Avacado Salsa
1 firm avacado, chopped - not smushed
1 tomato, chopped
3 green onions
1 small can chopped black olives
1 small can chopped green chilies
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 T olive oil
1 T apple cider vinegar
Combine all ingredients and mix well.
Refrigerate several hours or overnight
Additional Notes
This is a mild dip. Add one or more chopped jalapenos for more kick.

Grand Lake Day 3

Day 3 was beautiful!
Our cabins are from the 1950's and remind me of the cabins in the Dirty Dancing movie.  But the owner of Honey Creek Resort has treated us very well for 20 years and when his dock collapsed 2 yrs ago he built the walk way so Dennis could drive the wheel chair down to the dock.  It's not the fanciest but it's the friendliest.
This has been our cabin for many years!
This particular evening we had a big cookout and birthday party for our friends grandson Preston, and this is what the chef whipped up for us to eat.

More about this delicious meal in my next post!  We didn't eat better than this anywhere in Grove...

For Rose

I promised Rose from Oz that I would show you what I did with my leftover North Sea shells and my leftover money from Europe.  My husband poured a concrete form and put the shells in one and the money in the other.  I put them in my flower garden in the front yard.

Now I will always have them to look at with fond memories :)

The North Sea

For my Vintage Weekly post I chose the North Sea photos, I think I had a kodak something or other!

Nothing could get me prepared to visit the North Sea. I had been to the ocean before, the calm and peaceful and very blue ocean. I had never seen an ocean with wind and waves like the North Sea. Plus it was cold. We had been in the south of France with 95 degree weather and we got to Holland and it wasn't 95!

My friend Sharie is showing you the "beach", it is made up of seashells.

It was a truly beautiful and fierce sea and I will never forget the waves on that coastline!

Day 2, Monday

We could not have ask for better weather and we thank God for that.  We got re-acquainted with some old friends and just relaxed around the our dock.

We had a great first day, very fun and relaxing.

Day 1

Sunday, July 8th
We were so excited to go and also a little wary. Last year Dennis was so sick and the whole trip was so sad that I really didn't think I had it in me to go again. We got up and packed and I got stung by a wasp. No worries... then as I was packing I slammed my head into the van door...I'm OK. Finally we start.  It was overcast and a light rain so the weather was perfect. ( Thank you God)   For 18 years we have been following this rig.  (It ususally has a boat on it also)  The stand up jet ski on the right used to belong to my husband Dennis and he put in many a fun hour on that machine.

For 18 years we have stopped at the halfway point which is a McDonalds on highway 412.  Many times we would see people that we know and many pranks have been pulled in there.  One year my husband brought a fart machine and stood in line behind my good friend Debbie and preceded to rip a few.  and they were loud....
One of the sights I love seeing while traveling to Grand Lake is Keystone Lake.  My mom and dad used to camp there and I love going across that bridge and seeing how beautiful the lake is.  It was very pretty the day we drove over.

Then we hit Tulsa.  Now, for 15 of these years I never had to drive and I do not like driving through Tulsa.  I'm an Oklahoma City girl and Tulsa just confuses me.  I did end up in Catoosa last year, I did not this year!
this is the Hard Rock Casino on the east side on Tulsa.  Catoosa is not very far from there, I know this....

I took all these pictures with my small Kodak point and shoot camera without even looking through the view finder cause I didn't want to wreck!!

Anyway, we got to our destination and we felt like we were home again.  I'll post pictures soon.
