Vintage Weekly

I am doing something different for my Vintage Weekly post this week.  I was going through some old photos of my moms and I always love to see the fashions of the 50's.  I decided to post the formal wear of each of our generations.  First my mom.  I wanted a prom pictured but she doesn't have one so I settled for her in the homecoming court of Del City High School.  This was around 1956-57.
Next is mine taken in 1975 and it's the most blah.  Our theme was "Over the rainbow" .
Next is my daughter taken in 2003.  I think she is beautiful in this photo.
It is fun to see how the styles have changed and I still love my mom's picture best.  I wish it was in color because I would love to see all the colors of the dresses.  Much love, Cheri

Skywatch Friday

I'm using this picture again for my Skywatch Friday post.  I had it in a post awhile back but I love the sky behind the wind turbin.
Happy Weekend, Cheri

Oakwood, OK

Oakwood, Oklahoma is the town where my mom was born.  It used to be a railroad town but now it has dried up to pretty much nothing.  My mom was born in a house on main street and it is not there anymore but I will show you the main street of Oakwood.

My Uncle Doyle had the gtocery store but the building is not even there any more.  The cafe is still there (not working)  and my mom actually lived in this building at one time.
This is the drugstore where my mom and her friends would go and drink a soda.

This is where the school used to stand, they tore it down some years ago.
Behind all the overgrown brush you can barely see a small shack in the dense covering.  That was my grandpa and grandma Roberts house.
This old corvair was wasting away in someones yard.
This old house had been empty a long time.
But, on a good note they have a feed store and a cafe/bar.

One last shot of main street.  This town only had 72 people in the 2000 cencus taken.  I'm pretty sure it's less now.
Now, this sign made Dennis and I laugh.  If you love this town and want to come back for vacation we have an RV park!
So much of my family history comes from this poor little town and it makes me sad to see it about gone.  We had many a Christmas's here and almost all of my aunts and uncles were born here. Most of my family is buried here so I guess we have to rely on our memories.  Much love, Cheri

Monday Mural

This weeks Monday Mural is in Longdale, Ok.  When Dennis and I go on a road trip we go through little towns and look around and we usually find some interesting sights. I'm not sure what was going on when they painted this mural, I know it is the Gloss Mountains and some adobe huts?  Can someone help me out?  Maybe it's not the Gloss Mountains....
 Happy Monday!  Much love, Cheri

Vintage Weekly

For my Vintage Weekly post we are still in Monte Carlo.  This is my daughter and one of her friends at the palace.

It has been the stronghold of the Grimaldi family since 1297.  We also watched the changing of the guards.

Great memories!  Cheri

The 60's

If you know me at all, you know I love everything about the 60's.  I was in grade school and junior high in the late 60's and high school in the early 70's.  Yes, I am old!  There was never a more exciting time and I relish all the memories.  I loved the fashion, the music, the shows, everything.  I think I own and have read every book on the 60's and have seen every documentary or show on the subject.  Here is my collection of books and mind you I have given some to the library.

I am very glad to have been growing up in the late 60's and early 70's.  I loved my mini skirts with fish nets , high waisted, big leg jeans. I loved my maxi dresses and chokers and head bands and mocassins.  I loved that my girlfriend Rita and I would sit and listen to the radio and try to write down the words as fast as we could, to the lastest hits.  We only had 2 radio stations where I lived WKY in the day and KOMA at night.  We would save our dollar and go to TG & Y to get the latest 45, then stack them 10 high on our record player and play them all night!  This is my 6th grade class float.  Now  this is the 1st float we had ever done and we didn't quite have the hang of it!
This is an upper class's float, they had the hang of it.
This is my in my high waisted jeans and smock top!
Oh,to be that young again!

I feel a little sorry for people who didn't get to go through that time frame, but I;m sure everyone says that about when they grew up.  My mom will swear there was never a better time than the 50's!
Much love, Cheri

Mural Monday 1

This is my first attemp at Monday Mural and I thought I would start with my hometown mural.  Every town Dennis and I have drive through we always look for a mural, so I have a few but I have to start off with Fairview, Oklahoma.  Now, I am going to say that I don't absolutely love this mural ( don't kill me) but I like it..

Weekend Reflection

This is on our trip to Grand Lake in 2011.  Bailey is the best dog and she belongs to some friends of ours!  As you can tell she loves the water.  I captured a video of her and her owner that was hilarious.  Blake went under water and Bailey couldn't find him.

Skywatch Friday

This is my Skywatch Friday post.  A couple of years ago we were standing at my place of employment and this cloud of dust started getting closer and closer.  I grabbed my phone and took this shot.  Happy Friday!

Oklahoma Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys

I'm sure I have shocked some people by the title of my blog being an OSU Cowboy fan. Trust me this is the only time you will see the OU fight song on my blog. The reason is this time of year always makes me a little melancholy because this was my daddy's absolute favorite season...the start of football season! To daddy there were only two seasons, the start of football and the end of football and he went into depression at the end of the football. His two favorite teams, you guessed it, the OU Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys.

He was their number one fanatic fan. So when the air starts getting a little cooler and we start putting on our hoodies, I start getting a little sad thinking about how much daddy loved this time of year and how much we all miss him.  This is a picture of my Uncle Devere on the left and daddy on the right at the Dallas Cowboy training camp.

When I went off to collage I went to Oklahoma State and he gave me some grief, but I think he even came to like the OSU Cowboys in the end.

 GO POKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vintage Weekly

I love posting on Vintage Weekly.  It gives us memories that are sometimes cracked or yellowed or a little bit blurry, but they are still great memories .  I hope more people start to link up with Jane at Vintage Weekly blogspot because some of the older photos always have a great story behind them.  For this weeks Vintage Weekly photo I am posting from Monte Carlo in Monocco.  It is a gorgeous city but I felt like a fish out of water.  You definitely need some big money to play in this town.
This is the famous Monte Carlo Casino as we have seen in some of the James Bond movies.  We did get to go in and it is very different than the casinos in our nation.  You must be dressed appropriately (we were not but they let us look anyway), you must be quiet and you must have lots of cash.  We can only dream!

Skywatch Friday

This is my first Skywatch Friday post.  This is a blogspot that is devoted to sky scenes and some are quite beautiful.  This was taken in my backyard while Dennis and I sat on the deck.  God is good, Cheri

Car Show 2012

Fairview had it's annual car show and as usual it was hot as hades!  I have mixed feelings about the car show.  One, it  was something I was never thrilled about, but my husband Dennis loved it and always had a good time at.  Two, my friend Cathy always enjoyed the car show time of year.  Well, since Dennis's accident it is usually to hot for him to go.  As a person with an SCI (spinal cord injury) you can't get to hot or very bad things happen!  And as I have told you in previous posts, my friend Cathy died a few years ago.  Also, Dennis and I spent some time in Houston at a rehab center and this is my repost from that time at TIRR .

Car Show 2006

They were having the car show in Fairview and that has always been one of Dennis’s favorite events. He would get our little Honda 50 and enter it in the burn out competition! As I was reading about it in the Fairview paper I wanted to cry out. Why is the earth still turning? Why are people still going on with their daily lives? Why isn’t everything and everybody as affected as we are? But of course, I knew the answer because life does go on and the world still turns and people continue their daily lives just as we had before the accident. I think when you go through something like this you become a whole lot more in tune to what other people are going through. As things were winding down at TIRR, Dennis and I had a long talk about how hard it was going to be for him to go home. We talked about seeing people for the first time and how they were going to react to him. We knew people would treat him differently and we were trying to prepare ourselves for what was to come. It was going to be hard not getting to go to work and having to watch me to go work every day. There were a lot of things to talk about and we both cried and cried, but the bottom line was I didn’t care how much of a hardship it was going to be as long as Dennis was still here with me. I couldn’t imagine my best friend not being at my side every day. 1 Peter 5:7 talks about casting your care and that was what we were going to do. We know it’s going to be hard but we have each other and God will direct our paths.

Here are some of this years car show photos!

More photos to come!  Much love, Cheri

3 day weekend

On Sunday Dennis told me he needed a road trip.  He is home all week while I'm at work and he doesn't appreciate the long weekend like I do.  That is one of the things you have to give and take on in our situation.  So I told him I would jump in the shower and he would decide where we are going.
He decided that we would drive to Oakwood, Ok, the birthplace of my mom and most of her family.  So, on the way there we couldn't get over the beauty of the wind turbans on the countryside.  They are truly amazing and I was surprised how many there were.

We were right underneath this one and it still doesn't convey how huge these things are!
I loved this picture, a kind of old and new.

Much love, Cheri

First Weekend reflection

This photo makes me want to go back and sit on the dock on Grand Lake.  Everything is so calm, not a care in the world,  no work, no phones, no doctor appointments, no hassles.  Well, maybe a few hassles but worth it.

This is for my very first weekend reflection post. It is a blogspot that lets you link your reflection photos on to their blog.   For more weekend reflections click here.
