Here is a pic of a silo that has a tree growing out of it. I have always thought this was cool, so one day Dennis and I was driving around and I stopped and took a picture of it. I took it three ways.

caregiving 101

Sometimes we as caregivers have bad days.  We may or may not hit our patient in the head with the lift.  We may, and I'm not saying this happened,  accidently cut the skin when trimming the fingernails, and may also cut skin when cutting the wrap off a wound.  We may be talking and not realize the lift is as high as it will go and he has been dangling there alwhile . We may have gotten his trach caught on his shirt and it pulled a little. We may at some time or another forgot to deflate the cuff on the trach when we put the speaking valve in so the patient was not getting any air.  We may have given some wrong medicine at some times.  Now I am not saying that this has every happened at my house, I am just saying these things happen,so imagine our shock last week when we gave Dennis a bath and had to change the pacemakers wrapping.  We turned off the pacemaker and switched the pad then proceded to do wound care to both elboes and heel.  10 to 15 minutes later Dennis said he couldn't breathe.  We were shocked to learn that "we" ( the names have been deleted to protect) didn't turn the pacemaker back on!  At which point I told my husband it was all done on purpose to test his breathing ability and he passed with flying colors.  That's what good caregivers do, test their patients.  Much love, Cheri

This is Jana my BFF.
She was a fellow blogger after much talking on my part.  Now, she is not blogging due to her not wanting to pay google the fee on blogger to upload pictures.  (don't get me started)  Today is her big 5-0 birthday and I posted this picture on facebook.
This picture will tell you how long we have known each other.  THE 80's!  I am standing behind her but my glasses are so big I wouldn't dare post my photo on here.

We have gotten older together, and we have been through some of life's major events together.  Jana's mom died when we were younger and she came over to my house so upset.  I remember asking God to give me wisdom and He just kept saying " just be there for her".  Then a few years later she went through another life altering event and we went through that together.  Then it was my turn.  My husband Dennis had his accident and while we were in the emergency room it filled with his friends and family.  After everyone had gone home and I went up to the trauma ICU waiting room there was Jana sitting beside me.  She stayed all night with me and we got to sleep on hard chairs with no pillows.  I can't even tell you what that meant to me.  I hope God has blessed all of you with the kind of friends that He has blessed me with because I can't imagine going through life without them.

P.S.  Did I mentioned that Jana is also a sarcastic brat and she sometimes looks like this.  HA!

Love you girl!!    Cheri

Vintage Weekly

For a Vintage Weekly  post this week I am adding another picture of Arles, France.  There is a lot of history in Arles and this is a picture of the arena built by the Romans.

I did not have a great picture of the whole arena from the outside so I borrowed one from Wikipedia so you could see.  Much love, Cheri

Neon Signs

I few months ago a fellow blogger was posting pictures of their favorite neon signs and I thought none of them hold a candle to the one in my small town.  This is a picture of the prettiest neon sign and it has been a family owned car business for years. The big cities don't have a thing on this sign.

Monday Mural

This mural is in the little town of Ames, Oklahoma.  I'm not sure what it depicts but I loved it!

SCI and winter!

I seriously don't like winter.  I know I gripe about the heat but I do not like being cold.  As a caregiver it's really a bummer because Dennis can not tolerate the cold.  He has metal in his neck and it doesn't like the cold.  So basically we hibernate from December to March.  Cabin fever is a real thing!  This picture was from last year and we don't like it when it looks like this, although right now we would take this in a heartbeat just to get the moisture.  I won't let Dennis go to the ball games because I'm scared he will get the flu.  So we have watched lots of movies and I'm getting ready to crack out the games!  I am ready for it to look like this again, but if we don't get rain it may not this year.

Great friends at Christmas

I have a lot of great friends in my life but I have four really special ones.   I had a Christmas luncheon for three of them.  It's a way for me to say thank you for all they do for me during the year.  These are the kind of friends I wish every caregiver could be blessed enough to have.  They laugh with me when I am happy and they cry with me when I am sad.  I am so blessed to have them in my life.  These three and their husbands go on vacation with Dennis and I and help us have the best time possible.  They help me unload my van and help me get Dennis in and out of his chair.  They make our life as comfortable as possible while we are there for the few days that we have with them.   So this was a thank you for being there for me through out the year. It is not nearly enough but they all know I love them and would do anything for them.   I got them each an angel ornament that says  "Sometimes friends are family too"  that statement is very true for me.

New Toy

This is the new toy Dennis's Dad made us for Christmas.  It's a squirrel maze and I can't wait to see my first squirrel in it!  Larry put it in the tree and Dennis and I have a great view so now we wait....

Do unto others

My husband and I got a blessing in the mail today.  It was monetary and it was anonymous.  I have stopped trying to find out who sends us gifts because 1) I never find out and 2)  it doesn't make a difference.  The reason it doesn't make a difference is because God knows.   He knows and He is blessing them right now.  We will take a portion of our blessing and try to be a blessing.  The most amazing thing about these blessings is that they always come at a time when I am almost to the point where I question God's truth about giving and we need the money for some unexpected reason.  I am trying to remember that He is faithful and it's not of my own strength but His.  He always sends a servant to help and then I am awestruck once again at His faithfulness.  Dennis and I have been studying a lot about the Law and that with the one law Jesus gave us everything would be alright.  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  Thank you to whoever and may God richly bless you.   Much love, Cheri
